Normal life is with us again, as we get in the flow post-holidays. It is a relief for yours truly. And our eyes turn to the regular basketball schedule again. Is there anything more effective for getting us through the "blahs" of winter? It is a relief to see MACA game results from Tuesday night. "Bring it on" for the rest of the season.
And if Tuesday was an indication, we can surely expect exciting highlights. Because, the Tigers of both genders enjoyed winning outcomes. I just checked "Maxpreps" at 10:15 a.m. and do not see the boys data reported. We'll keep an eye on that site.
"Minnesota Scores" of course has the game scores. Alas, in the past I could rely on two resources that now are very unreliable. One is the West Central Tribune of Willmar. For years, despite its occasional flaws and inconsistencies, which any paper is bound to have, it was very helpful. Today it is spotty at best.
The other lost resource is the kmrs-kkok website. Since Brett Miller left, it really just has the bare essentials of scores and maybe the "next up" announcing the next game.
I have hardly typed any of the girls' players' names yet this season. Maybe once. And I theorize that happened because an opposing coach was nice enough to supply the info to the WC Tribune.
Our MACA girls won in convincing fashion Tuesday night. This was over Lac qui Parle. Score of 69-31. Game site was Madison. For this game the West Central Trib does not have the LQPV data either. Their coverage is two sentences. The second sentence announces when LQPV's next game is. The article does not announce the Tigers' next game.
How inconsiderate. The omission seems rather offensive. The WC Trib is owned by Forum Communications. The Forum once owned the newspaper in Morris. But they left town.
Boys ranked #2 in MN
Let's take a look at the boys game outcome. Here the orange and black won impressively also. Look at the score of 74-49. Our boys shot out to a 39-18 lead at halftime. Fans at Minnewaska observed this hoops action.
Our MACA boys are ranked No. 2 in state AA! Lots of highlights lie ahead for sure.
So the WC Trib stiffs us as far as game/player data. They do report on the Minnewaska Area Lakers, our friendly neighbor to the east on beautiful Lake Minnewaska. We have to feel for them because they have great difficulty getting a referendum to pass. We here in Morris perform substantially better on that, although our last one passed only narrowly. But it passed!
Does this mean that I root for school referendums? Well no, not at all. My main issue is that I have a strong dislike for teacher unions. It is a lifelong passionate hatred. So if a referendum looks good for the teachers in any way, shape or form, I am thumbs-down. I support the destruction of teacher unions. I am not alone. If you want to see fewer cuts to school programs, you'll be with me on this.
A big problem is that a lot of people feel obligated to form personal friendships with teachers. I have seen this a lot in my life. Teachers have the power to intimidate us.
I enjoy reporting on the activities so I will share here the Minnewaska highlights from Tuesday's action. To repeat: The WC Trib reports details on the Lakers, not on the Tigers. I cannot influence this at all.
The name "Danielson" is pretty high-profile in 'Waska athletics these days, boys and girls. So we see Luke Danielson at the fore of the Lakers' scoring with 17 points. Two of his teammates each scored ten: Marc Gruber and Cavin Thorfinnson. Caleb Kath and Riley Week each put in four points. Tristan O'Neil and Connor Erickson each added two.
Gruber and Thorfinnson each made two 3-pointers. Danielson with his eleven rebounds led there. Thorfinnson had five assists to lead. He and Erickson each had a steal. Week and Alan Svec each blocked a shot.
This is not how I wanted to present today's blog post. I wish I had detailed information on either the MACA boys or girls team, preferably both. But when you get handed lemons, you try to make lemonade.
