Nothing could have stopped the MACA boys basketball team Thursday night. Not even an ICE agent. Suppose I should not make light of the incident from Gotham i.e. the Twin Cities. Everyone is now following their script, so if you're MAGA you will bend over backwards to defend the murderer wearing the ICE gear and uniform.
We are steadily entering 1930s Germany with all that is happening around us. The boiling frog principle explains why we are not properly scared or astonished. A mother of three killed as she was trying to slowly pull away from the scene. Doesn't that shock or concern you? Not if you consume media like the Jay Thomas show on WDAY out of Fargo.
I turned in yesterday to see if Thomas might depart from his usual MAGA-influenced script. Maybe tone it down some or at least observe that maybe the ICE person got overly consumed with adrenaline or whatever. A mother of three? Shot and killed? And the power of Trump and MAGA is so over-arching, you simply cannot demur some from the "conservative talk" crowd? Can't think for yourself?
Jay Thomas was hugely disappointing. There is nothing that yours truly can do but observe. I'm forced to live in 1930s Germany myself. How did Germany look by late 1945?
Tigers 91, BOLD 35
My, what a winning romp by our MACA boys basketball team! "We could have scored a hundred," I heard Neal Hofland say at Detoy's Restaurant this morning. We were a steam roller.
I am profoundly happy this morning, if I can take my mind off the ICE incident/tragedy, to report game details. My resource is obviously not the West Central Tribune website which stiffs us. Thanks to "Maxpreps" I can report that we charged out to a 58-20 halftime lead.
BOLD has a distraction these days: the "criminal investigation" into school finances. We can sure feel thankful we don't deal with that in our Motown. Everything is coming up roses here with referendums always getting passed. Of course the last one passed only narrowly. But it passed, which surely causes some jealousy in the Minnewaska school district.
Four Tigers scored in double figures in Thursday's rout. The charge was led by senior Tyson Grove who put in 23 points on 9 of 16 shooting. Alex Asmus was second-high with his 18 points on 7 of 12. Jonah Huebner's total was 11 and he was an efficient five of six. Jack Kehoe rounds out the top four and his ten points came on a perfect five of five!
Riley Asmus put in eight points on three of five. Ben Tiernan added to the mix with seven points on three of eight. Also scoring: Bryce Hardy 6, Tanner Friesen 4, Jorge Rodriguez 2 and Ozzy Jerome 2.
Grove led in 3's with five makes among 11 attempts. Bryce Hardy was 2 for 2 in long-rangers. Tiernan and Alex Asmus each made a '3'. In all the Tigers were 9 of 24 from beyond the 3-point line. In freethrows we shot 6 of 15.
Rebounds! We had 41 total with 15 on the offensive boards. The Asmus boys led the rebounding effort, Riley with nine and Alex with eight.
Riley Asmus was our top assist producer with six. Three of his mates each recorded three: Tiernan, Alex Asmus and Huebner. Grove and Huebner played an aggressive brand of ball that rewarded them with six steals each. Kehoe blocked two shots.
The dismal news
On this Friday a.m. we're dealing with more of the Trump-inspired news that serves to divide us with each passing day. Some people cannot see what is right in front of them.
People who are so quick to blame the mom that got shot and killed were certainly not oriented in such a way when Ashli Babbitt was shot by police in the J-6 riots. Oh what a tangled web we weave. And you just know what the Megyn Kellys of the world are going to say. Right along with Jay Thomas, the jerk.
Right now Thomas is a "hot" media personality. But the political winds can shift and change, Jay. I mean, when people start getting shot and killed. People are going to start getting tired of you and your preachy predictability. Your scripted "outrage." We can tune in to Mark Levin for that.
I see a headline this morning where the Wall Street Journal, once a conservative fountain, advises restraint with a lot of what is going on from Washington D.C. In other words "cool it some," a message for the Trump crowd. The headline cites the Journal's editorial board. The board says "violent episodes like ICE shooting won't help Trump, GOP in November."
Right on, WSJ, you know your priorities, the top one being to take care of the electoral prospects of the Republican Party. Well I'm sitting here as a mere soul at his kitchen table in Flyoverland, and I'll proclaim that the over-arching concern isn't a political party, it's the needless loss of life of the mom of three. I hope the Timberwolves call off a home game.
I hope the Democrats can get so much power now, they can absolutely screw the red states just like Trump is now screwing the blue states (like Minnesota).
What are the "Christian" preachers going to say this Sunday? I mean from the rigidly conservative pulpits where there is no such thing as nuance? This mom of 3 "had it coming?" This is what God ordains? Well he's not my God, that's for sure. Jesus Christ? The guy with the long hair who wears a dress and hears voices? Does he endorse ICE and its tactics too? Just because Trump was "sent by God?"
The true God will send us the truly meritorious message at some point. And it won't be the kind of message you'll hear from Jay Thomas or Megyn Kelly. It will be about love and compassion.
That's my take and I realize I win no popularity contests out here. I could get death threats. I'm a stone's throw from the conservative Good Shepherd Church.
Addendum: If I had not found such thorough info on "Maxpreps" this morning, I would have blogged about the Minnewaska boys and girls teams from their Thursday games. I love blogging about the Lakers. However, my preference is always to blog about our MACA Tigers here in Morris. Timely info is sometimes impossible to come by.
