MAHACA wrestling turned in a 1-1 showing in a Melrose-hosted affair. The success was versus Sauk Centre-Melrose, the loss against Willmar. The winning score vs. Sauk Centre-Melrose was 64-16. Below are the bout-by-bout results from the win. Congrats to the Tigers.
Beau Haugen was the Tiger at 106 pounds and he lost by fall in 1:01 to Dominic Kerzman. Tyce Anderson was the Tiger at 113 and he had his arm raised unchallenged: forfeit. I personally do not like forfeits happening as often as they do in wrestling. I share this note as I come to the 120-pound bout: a forfeit again with Lanna Walter of SC-Melrose getting the win.
Back to the action: The 126-pound spot had Jarret Payne of the Tigers coming on strong to win by fall over Teddy Weichmann, 5:19. Way to go Jarret. Let's take a look at 132 pounds where Grayson Gibson of the orange and black pinned Noah Christen in 5:24. The momentum builds. Then at 138, SC-Melrose struck back as their Jose de los Santos prevailed in a major decision 11-3 over Logan Anderson.
Our Davin Rose at 145 was the 9-1 major decision winner over Mitchell Christen. Andrew Marty made a statement for MAHACA at 152 pounds as he won by fall over Ben Friedrichs, 1:45. The 160-pound spot had our Caden Rose pinning Dan Frericks in :31.
Ryker Erickson added to the MAHACA satisfaction with his fall win in 1:37 over Cesar Avalos. Here's another fall win to report, in the 182-pound position where Connor Olson of the Tigers beat Eden Rangel, 2:13.
Groan, another forfeit - I just don't like these - but it was MAHACA getting the win: 195 pounds. Hunter Gibson got his arm raised.
Bring on the big guys! So at 220 it was Brock Marty winning by fall over Isaac Frericks, 2:42. Carter Gibson at 285 won by fall in 1:45 over Will Sjogren.
The Tigers were on the short end against the Willmar Cardinals, 41-30. Here we go into the heart of the schedule! I consulted Facebook for writing this post.

Nice to be into the new year and with a sense of routine again, although the MLK holiday is coming up soon. Don't you all like the sense of stability that comes with your routine? We can all think of MLK as a great human being even if the Post Office doesn't get a day off.
Have you seen the news stories lately about how the Post Office is struggling? It sure doesn't help when we get a succession of holidays. Let's start with Veterans Day and then move on to Christmas, New Year's and then MLK. Imagine if we had had normal days instead of holidays, just to take care of the normal business.
New Year's was on Saturday night. So what gives with the Monday holiday? Oh I know, that's how the system works.
Christmas? That is a purely religious holiday. So I wonder about its propriety for affecting everyone. For most of my life I have not really questioned it. The problem in America these days is the bond between Christianity and politics. This seems to be becoming ever more problematic. I hate to bend over backwards for a holiday in connection with a religious faith that is becoming ever more tied to right wing politics and this person named Trump.
We still aren't done with Trump. Kevin McCarthy felt he had to "thank" Trump at the time McCarthy finally became Speaker of the House. So Trump still has total primacy with so many people. Morris is in the middle of bright red Trump country. And the situation appears worse in Hancock, although there were eight people in Moore Township who voted for Hillary in 2016 - somewhat mind-blowing.
So I don't know, maybe my ever-growing reservations about Christmas are why I didn't get out my normal decorations in 2022. I wrote my annual song but that probably owes itself more to wanting to keep my songwriting chops sharp. It's also a vehicle for touching base with many of my old acquaintances. I send links around.
But around my home? No trappings of Christmas in 2022. Because of that, the holiday with nearly everything being closed is starting to bother me. Maybe people will start celebrating Christmas as the birth of Donald Trump. I wouldn't rule anything out.
So on Friday the Tigers took to the home court to play Benson. Our boys beat the Braves in a rout, 73-34. It was a rout by halftime, score of 44-16. We got chief fuel in the scoring department from Kyle Fehr (22 points) and Tyler Berlinger (17). Rylan Larson and Drew Storck each scored eight points. Then we see Drew Huebner with seven, Jack Tollefson with five, Riley Asmus 2, Derek Waldbeser 2 and Kaleb Heins 2.
Our shooting was dead-on at 50 percent: 29 of 58. We didn't hold back shooting 3's and ended up with 8-for-24 numbers, 33 percent. Fehr was in the zone with his long-range shooting eye: six makes. Berlinger made our other two 3's. In freethrows our stats were 7-for-22, 32 percent, as Berlinger led with his three.
Rebounds! Here we had the team total of 37, 14 offensive. Tollefson was our leader with three offensive and four defensive. Huebner was a whiz with supplying assists: eleven to lead. Huebner and Matthew Giese each had a steal. Berlinger blocked two shots to lead. We had ten turnovers.
Bring on the rest of January!
