We are sliding into the holiday season now with weather this week that is going to be wholly commensurate. The depths of winter already. We even had some snow coming down last night (Sunday).
I went to church yesterday and realized again, "this is the faith that largely put Donald Trump into power." I mean, without it the man would most likely be back in the entertainment/celebrity world as more or less a curiosity. Oh, and without a doubt he could exude charm. I could feel entertained myself. But now he has awesome power over us Americans. He's had it before and now he's really loaded for bear.
We all know the scary things that could be coming at us. You don't doubt that, do you? So we sit back and just hope that our lives will stay reasonably on course. I don't think any of us really want to see news reports about "mass deportations" with all the heartbreak and intimidation that would cause.
To what extent can we live with "retribution" by Trump? We wonder: Is this mostly bluster? Are there enough checks and balances in our system? Our U.S. system was deliberately designed to keep too much power from being concentrated in one place. Or certainly with one individual.
The Trump minions along with so much of the general population have seemed to want to follow their guy no matter what. And, to express hostility to anyone advising caution on this. The red and blue division remains stark. And we are overwhelmingly red out here on the windswept prairie of western Minnesota.
People can walk by church buildings now and think "well, there's a stronghold for the Trump movement, right here in front of us. God and Jesus." As if our maker would allow Himself to be in league with DJT and his zealous sycophants. We are seeing his sycophants put forward for cabinet positions now. Wouldn't you know, a lot of this seems so scandalous. Surprise? We know it's anything but a surprise.
The "vetting" process for these people exists for a reason. Or at least this used to be the case. The throngs who support DJT now just want him to have his way with everything. Question anything re. him and they will sneer at you. They'll make it personal.
The only way for any re-thinking to happen is when DJT's throngs begin to think that the effect of his presidency is hurting their quality of life. That's it. Do I root for that? I can't, because no one should root for failure.

I have even heard the serious speculation that Trump subconsciously desires to damage America. It caught my attention because I sense some foundation for that. But my naysayers would fling invective at me for suggesting as much. I'm a "Trump hater." I have "Trump derangement syndrome." Over and over it gets hurled.
Look, I don't have a personal relationship with Trump so I cannot simply "hate" him. I can react with concern to what he stands for. I can feel gravely concerned because, beneath all the rhetoric on a variety of issues, I think the only real nuts and bolts priority for him is more tax cuts for the wealthy. Make the ultra-rich even more rich. "Trickle down," get it?
Do you feel there's a whole lot "trickling down" to you now? Does inflation scare you? DJT wants influence over the "Fed." To do what? Certainly not to push for higher interest rates. It would be quite the converse. And yes, many people cheer lowest possible interest rates, but I assure you, interest rates exist for a reason. If I may quote a popular conservative line, "there is no free lunch." Many people appear to think there is. "Free money." This will catch up to us.
Mass deportations? Using the military? What kind of image will this present about the U.S. for the rest of the world? We'll deport so many people who are willing to work for low wages. This too will boost inflation.
Hey, I haven't even gotten to the subject of tariffs yet. Of course that's inflationary.
Another burst of inflation and we'll see another wave of restaurant closures across America. Remember, at a restaurant you aren't just paying for the food, you are paying for someone to prepare your meal and another person to bring it. It's a nice experience but it has to stay affordable. It should stay affordable for a majority of Americans.
I personally think the U.S. is heading for calamity with another Trump presidency. And will it ever end? Will he be able to engineer a third term for himself? Will he engineer the passing of power to family members, creating in effect a "royal family?" Will he succeed in his efforts to muzzle and intimidate the media, to where anything that smacks of criticism will be judged to be "not in the public's interest?"
Look out, because I think a lot of these bad things may be on the way. Do I have anything to fear myself? I can't rule anything out. Enjoy your turkey this year. We may be in for a wild ride come January.
We have a congressperson who is joined at the hip with DJT. We're so beet-red out here in western Minnesota, Fischbach even had a challenger from the political right. "Life begins at conception." And so it goes. God is watching all of this.
